Halloween is a holiday we all know and love! With the costumes, the carving of pumpkins, the candy, and the spooky decorations, it is a holiday unlike any other. This holiday started out as a Celtic festival called Samhain, which was celebrated around 2,000 years ago. This festival was performed by the Celts to keep away spirits. As the years went on, this celebration grew to become All Saints Day, then All Hallows Eve, and then finally Halloween as we know it today.
During Halloween, everyone gets to have the freedom to become somebody, or something else entirely, for one day. They get to be devils, dinosaurs, cats, their most favorite superhero of all time, their favorite t.v character, or even their favorite food! They also get to carve fun designs on pumpkins, and kids get to go door to door collecting all the candy they can eat, whether it may be Skittles, king-sized Hershey bars, popcorn balls, or Kit-Kats, by saying "Trick or Treat!".
Because of its origins and history, there are many superstitions that people have in association to this really spooky holiday. For example, some people believe that if you come across a black cat on Halloween, then you will end up with bad luck, and others believe that the person who gets an apple first in a game called Apple Bobbing, where you try to grab an apple out of a bucket of water with your mouth, will be the first to get married in the near future.
